Pre-Requisite Requirements

Please ensure that delegates arrive in good time for the start of the course. In the event that individuals arrive after the stated start time, they may be excluded from the event and the full fee will be charged.

All delegates must be at least 16 years of age and be medically fit.

Delegates attending this course must have sufficient command of English language both written and verbal to allow delegates to address the assessment requirements of the qualification.

Please advise of any additional learning needs i.e. Dyslexia in advance of the course.

Overview

The qualification is for those undertaking works applicable to medium risk confined spaces in particular for the entry controller who will controls those making entry and the associated arrangements for medium risk confined space works. This units cover the duties that the entry controller will apply including pre-entry procedures and checks, preparing the entrants to work safely within the confined space, use of tools and equipment, entry and exiting the confined space, control and maintaining communications during the works and organising emergency arrangements if required.

Course Aims
The aim of this unit is to follow the national occupational standard required for works associated within a medium risk confined space environment. The qualification is applicable for both water and non-water and may include tasks working in sewer treatment processes, tunnelling, drainage and sewer systems, or where a confined space is subject to any of the specified risks.

Course Content

  • Carry out all required safety checks
  • Control the entry/exit for workers and maintain communications
  • Prepare to work in a safe manner in a confined space environment
  • Enter and exit the confined space following all necessary procedures
  • Using associated tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Following all required working procedures to work safely
  • Understand how to deal with emergencies - including the use of an escape set
  • Understanding confined space workings and all associated principles and regulations
