Upon successful completion of this course, competencies will be uploaded to Sentinel. Sentinel smart cards are ordered directly from Sentinel at www.railsentinel.co.uk

Pre-Requisite Requirements

Must have successfully completed the current e-learning assessment (within the last 3 months) prior to attendance and the certificate needs to be brought to the course. If no certificate is provided, the candidate will not be eligible to attend the course.

Must be a minimum of 18

Must hold a valid Sentinel card endorsed with PTS & COSS and meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021. Must not be in Learning Support or in Probationary status for COSS.

Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 3 and Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 Drugs and Alcohol

Must have a good level of literacy to meet Entry qualifications

Photo ID - For British Nationals - a current and valid recognised, branded form of identity token, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card, full driving licence, passport, biometric ID Card, resident permit as per Home Office guidance or 'ValIDate' card. For Non-British Nationals - a current and valid passport is required.

Overview

This course is designed to convert persons with the current COSS competence to SWL 1. They will also pass the pre-qualifier assessment and have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the SWL conversion and subsequent competence.

The SWL competence is to be held by anyone who is required to plan and set up a safe system of work on or near the line for a group (two or more). An SWL can also carry out the duties of an IWA provided there are no medical restrictions that would prevent this.
